The hymn, "Come Sing, Oh Church In Joy," captures
the bold past and bright future we have as a congregation at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, Ohio. The words
to the second stanza are:
"Long years have come and gone and still God reigns
supreme, empowering us to catch the vision, dream the dream! In bold accord,
come celebrate the journey and praise the Lord!"
Long years have come and gone, 181 years to be exact, but the
dream and vision are still alive: to reach men and women, boys and
girls for Jesus Christ. As our mission statement reads:
"The purpose of First Presbyterian Church is to
reach out to all people as Christ's disciples, enabling everyone to realize
the full potential Christ offers through the Holy Spirit, as we teach, evangelize, and serve."
The reason for this continuity of mission is twofold. First,
it derives from the constancy of God's will and purpose for His Church to reach
out to a broken and needy humanity with the love and compassion of Jesus Christ.
Secondly, it stems from the able leadership and committed congregation which has
characterized this church over the years.
The future remains bright when in bold accord we reach out
together, utilizing the spiritual gifts God has given us as members. It remains
strong as we hold steadfast to our call of proclaiming the Word of God and
equipping God's people for ministry.
That bright future includes you. We invite you to attend
Worship, Sunday School, Logos - Youth Fellowship, and/ or one of our small group
sessions and to get a taste of the wonderful opportunities that await you here
at First Presbyterian Church.
